In India, there is a strong gap in educational achievement depending on the social groups the students belong to. The government has set a series of measure to cope with this :

  • special scheme for disadvantaged students

  • public institutions set up quotas to enable lower background groups to access HEI.

Nevertheless, the academic results are not conclusive enough, based on statistics, to consider these measures as a unique and sustainable solution.

In the end, some long-term approaches are offered :

  • wider access to primary education for all

  • standardized assessment of students

  • academic support

  • more evaluation of these inequalities to orientate the policies
