Asha Gopinathan is a neuroscientist based in Trivandrum, Kerala, and a member of the International Network of Women Engineers and Scientists.

This qualitative article starts with the presentations of a book based on famous Indian women professional or academic achievement. The purpose is to « provide young girls with inspiring models ». It shows that basically these brilliant minds came from rural areas but were supported by both family members and teachers. Among a flow of social, economical and cultural barriers, one reason would outdo the latter: passion.
