Let kids rule the school

Categorie(s): Initiatives 1 Commentaire

This is an article about an experience led in 8 public high schools in the state of Massachusetts, USA. Driven by an observation of the US educational system , the Independent Project was initiated following this rule : grant kids more autonomy in scheduling their timetable, subjects and programmes to rule their own school, under the supervision of a counselor.

What was highlighted in the end was the strong sense of ownership, decision-making and responsibility the kids were feeling when given the opportunity to choose by themselves for themselves.

The aim of the article is not to promote and approach the project « shape » but to impact it on a different yet feasible way to benefit from student’s energy and their will to achieve their own academic goals.

Je m’interroge tout de même sur le background social des jeunes impliqués. A-t-on des info la dessus?
